The Ceremony
At 09:00 am, the Bride and the Bridegroom
arrive at the "village" whrefupon the bride will be led
to the dressing room and prepared for the ceremony
to follow.
The Bride's "parents and relatives"
(or reps provided by us) will be waiting in an auditorium for the
"the bridegroom's procession" of gifts,
sugar cane, fruits, whisky, etc to arrive. The Bridegroom will be
riding a specially prepared majestic elephant!
The "Long Drum Dance" will be part
of the procession. Upon arrival at the Bride's "house",
he will find the gates "blocked"
whref 'relatives' of the Bride will ask for a 'gate fee' ... thref
will be 3 gates: wood, silver and gold.
The Bridegroom's 'parents' will have prepared
some money wrapped in red paper to be offered
at each gate. After answering some questions like,
"why are you coming href?", "what are you bringing
for our daughter?", etc, the Bridegroom will
open the gifts (gold, money, accessories, engagement ring, etc.)
he carries and if the parents are satisfied with
the gifts, they will ask their daughter to come out and she receives
permission to get married, after which the couple pays respect to
the Buddha image ...
[if Official Registration is required, an authorized
government officer will legally record the marriage]
Soon after, elders or their 'parents' will present
fresh flower garlands and put a sacred white string around their
heads as a sign of being united including 3 spots of sacred white
powder on their foreheads as a blessing.
Parents and all 'relatives' start pouring water
over the couples hands presenting good wishes ... a thai ensemble
will play during this proceeding.
At about 10:00 am, the ceremony will draw to
a close with festively and colorfully dressed dancers coming out
to wish the couple good luck, long life and happiness by tossing
fragrant flowers upon them.
If a religious ceremony is required, the party
proceeds to a specially prepared area in the restaurant whref five
monks bless the wedding couple with prayers and sacred water. The
couple and their parents will then offer the monks
food and drinks and make some donation for the temple. After the
food is consumed, the ceremony will conclude with
a round of prayers and blessings.
The Bride and Bridegroom will threfafter plant
a "Ton Rak" (or Love Tree) at the lakeside as a gesture
of long & growing life of love!
